AMY

TAIPEI, TAIWAN

台北, 台灣

I remember when I was a kid still living in Taiwan I threw many tantrums at my dad because everyday after school I would get so excited to eat shrimp chips but whenever I got home they would be already devoured by my dad. But then he'd apologuze and take me to the supermarket to get more and I felt like the happiest kid in the world again.

After moving to America, my mom would buy these from the Chinese market in our town in New Jersey but I would never bring it to school no matter how much I wanted to because I was embarassed. I was ashamed of bringing Asian food to school because the other kids always made comments and said it was weird. After a while living in America I had conditioned my mom to only pack me a peanut butter sandwich for lunch in those brown paper bags the other kids all used.
